Buying train tickets

Okay so your train won't look quite as cool as the bullet train we took in Japan but you can't have everything!

For those of you who are thinking of using the train (TGV) here is the website of the SNCF (french railway company):

http://www.voyages-sncf.com/leisure/fr/launch/home/

To have the page in English, scroll right down to the bottom of the page and click on the flag icon on the left of the page.

Tickets only go on sale three months before the departure date. For example if you want to get a return from Paris going the 28th of May and coming back on the 1st of June you can buy the outward ticket from the 28th of February and the return ticket from the 1st of March. I've got an alert on those tickets and will let you know via the blog as soon as the tickets are on sale. The earlier you buy, the better the fare. The cheapest tickets available are called Prems, they go on sale with the other tickets 3months before and are available on direct trains only.
